The masts of the 277-person ship apparently struck the bridge after it lost power. Witnesses reported seeing sailors hanging from the shattered masts in a chaotic scene.
The Mexican Navy's training ship Cuauhtemoc struck the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday night, resulting in a terrifying spectacle where sailors were seen hanging from damaged masts far above the deck, leaving two persons dead and seventeen injured.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. local time, the nearly 300-foot-long, three-masted ship reportedly lost power and slid backward into the historica bridge. The ship's massive masts, which were over 150 feet high, struck the underbelly and snapped in quick succession as a result of the collision.
