Ahmedabad plane crash live: At least 120 people are feared dead after an Air India flight carrying 242 passengers crashed near Ahmedabad Airport. The plane, en-route to London, crashed in a residential area, five minutes after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport in Gujarat.

Live updates on the Ahmedabad plane crash: On Thursday, only moments after taking off from Ahmedabad airport, an Air India aircraft carrying 242 passengers crashed. The terrible disaster has reportedly claimed the lives of at least 120 people. Five minutes after taking off from Gujarat's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport, the aircraft, headed for London, crashed in a residential neighborhood. Images of the jet crash that went viral on social media depict heavy smoke columns in the sky.

Twelve of the 242 passengers were cabin crew members. Vijay Rupani, the former chief minister of Gujarat, is also thought to be aboard the Air India flight to London.

Ram Mohan Naidu, the minister of civil aviation, is hurrying to Ahmedabad to evaluate the situation after Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of it.
